  • Backlog (optional)

The Backlog column is a repository for tasks, ideas, and requirements yet to be tackled. It can also be called Stories, Product Backlog, or Ideas.

Items in this column need to be organized and refined based on importance towards the project's goals.

A Backlog column can ensure everyone knows what tasks lie ahead and help to avoid losing good ideas.

  • Tasks

The Tasks column has cards that have been dicussed, and are ready to be tackled during the current sprint. Other common names are Sprint Backlog, Todo, and Not Started.

Combining the Backlog and Tasks is a common practice for scrum teams, making the process more straightforward. However, this approach requires careful consideration, as it can overwhelm the team with the entire backlog.

  • Doing

This column, also known as Doing, Development, or Work In Progress, contains tasks currently in progress. It helps the team stay informed about what everyone is working on.

It's a common practice to split this column to clarify the status even more, creating, for example, the columns Testing and Review.

  • Done

At last, there's the column where all tasks are moved to once fulfilled.

Ideally, tasks should be complete once they reach this column. Sometimes however, the cards only get reviewed at this stage. If requirements change or issues arise with the proposed solution, tasks can move back to the Tasks list for further adjustments.
